(1)- IN/UNSECURE – A study, by a top researcher at Microsoft, found that instructions intended to spare us from costly computer attacks often exact a much steeper price in the form of user effort and time expended.
(2)- CHINA WASTE -- Every year, new buildings in China total up to 2 billion square meters and use up 40 percent of the world's cement and steel, but these buildings can only stand 25 to 30 years on average.
(3)- FACE TRANSPLANT -- A team of 30 Spanish doctors claim to have successfully performed the world’s first full face transplant. The operation was carried out last month on a young man whose face had been disfigured in an accident.
(4)- FUNGUS AMONGUS -- A potentially deadly strain of fungus is spreading among animals and people in the northwestern United States and the Canadian province of British Columbia, researchers report. It’s called Cryptococcus gattii.
(5)- SEAL REPORT -- A lack of sea ice in one of the warmest Canadian winters on record and a European boycott have ruined what was to be a banner seal hunt off Canada's Atlantic coast this month.
(6)- DOGS CURE CANCER -- Wet licks from your dog may lead to treatments for cancers in dogs and people, according to a news release from the Translational Genomics Research Institute and the Van Andel Research Institute.
(7)- INTENT -- An animal protection group is challenging a Pennsylvania coroner's finding that the death of a circus animal handler when he was kicked by an African elephant was an accident. The group says intent was involved.
(8)- CAT BRAIN REPORT -- A cat can recognize a face faster and more efficiently than a supercomputer. That's one reason a feline brain is the model for a biologically-inspired computer project involving the University of Michigan.
(9)- SUPERCOOK -- Supercook is a new recipe search engine that finds recipes you can make with only the ingredients you have at home. The more ingredients you add, the better the results will be.
