(1)- BEARDS ARE BEST -- A recent study in the Journal of Marketing Communications found that men with beards were deemed more credible than those who were clean-shaven.
(2)- MAYBE -- Do findings indicate that a basketball player who has hit a number of shots, and is thus considered hot, is no more likely to hit the next shot than his or her overall shooting percentage would predict?
(3)- CHINA TROUBLES AHEAD -- China’s economic model, which allowed the Chinese to take maximum advantage of boom times, is particularly ill suited to current global conditions.
(4)- WHAT'S A BLUSH? -- Blushing happens when the blood vessels (the smallest of which are called capillaries) in the face open up (dilate), allowing more blood to flow into them. Emotions can have an impact on blood vessels.
(5)- ABOUT DICKENS -- is there not something a trifle sinister in Dickens’s letter to Lord Normanby (such a name of lofty entitlement), written while he was struggling to finish The Old Curiosity Shop.
(6)- OOOOPS! -- An Australian publisher gets rid of and reprints a cookbook after one recipe listed "salt and freshly ground black people" instead of black pepper. The publisher reprinted 7,000 copies of Pasta Bible.
(7)- PROTECTION -- Of the big five, only two browsers currently use appropriate protection on Windows; Internet Explorer (7 and 8), and Chrome. For this reason alone, I'd be hesitant to use Safari, Opera, or Firefox.
(8)- PRIORITIES -- India's cellphone subscribers total 563.73 million, enough to serve nearly half of the country's 1.2 billion population. But just 366 million people - around a third of the population - had access to proper sanitation.
(9)- MARINE LIFE REPORT -- Gargantuan whales and hefty cephalopods are thought of as the classic marine mammoths, but they might have to make way for the mighty microbes, which constitute 50 to 90 percent of the oceans' total biomass.
