(1)- FEMINISM -- What does the feminist movement need from men? That was the question posed at the first National Conference for Campus Based Men’s Gender Equality and Anti-Violence Groups in Minnesota.

(2)- PACKAGING -- Overpackaging, killer clamshells, and other common triggers of wrap rage. Nearly 10% of a typical product's price is for packaging. The global packaging market is worth $429 billion.

(3)- GEORGE ELIOT OBSERVATIONS -- Eliot’s Daniel Deronda, published in 1876, and her last novel, begins in 1865, set in, and a searching analysis of, the Victorian society of her day. Daniel Deronda is at once a love story, and a novel of ideas.

(4)- POLYGLOT WEB -- Imagine what browsing the web would be like if you had to type out addresses in characters you don't recognise, from a language you don't speak. It's a nightmare that will end for hundreds of millions of people in 2010.

(5)- WHOLE EARTH CATALOG – There's our need to deploy science to clean up the mess made by science. The modern world burned half a trillion tons of carbon since the Industrial Revolution. The next half trillion will be burned in 40 years.

(6)- HEALTH CARE -- The Kaiser Family Foundation has the most comprehensive guide, looking at everything from whether the final legislation will result in higher premiums (yes and no) to whether Medicare will still cover gym memberships (no).

(7)- OLDER RUSSIANS -- Russia's population statistics are rising for the first time since 1995, says Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. He said statistics to be released shortly would show life-expectancy had almost reached the age of 69.

(8)- OOOOOCH -- A Web designer was struck by the decor at a New York City restaurant — when it fell on her head. Raina Kumra says a 150-pound stuffed moose head with 3-foot-wide antlers plummeted off a wall at the Scandinavian-themed White Slab Palace on Oct. 4 and hit her.

(9)- SPLITZVILLE -- A 50-year-old Jewish man living in Jerusalem has been granted his 11th divorce, a new Israeli record for Jews according to a Rabbinical court. He divorced after his current wife said he had not been working...
