WEB BOHEMIAN (Monday, August 13, 2012)
(1)- ISLAND SALE -- L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt (at the center of a tax evasion case) has sold a Seychelles island for $60 million, having bought it in 1998 for $18 million, says an island official.

(2)- RUSSIA FLEXES -- The Russian government intends to restore the military-technical support of their ships on three occeans: at the former military base in Cam Ranh (Vietnam), Lourdes (Cuba) and the Seychelles.

(3)- WHY? -- We've been sitting on the same kind of crapper for centuries. As far as the toilets themselves go, hundreds of years after they were invented, they're still largely porcelain. Wonder why?

(4)- L.A. RIVER – Despite decades of engineering to put the river and its tributaries into concrete channels, ditches, and pipes, there remain surprising unlikely patches, where the wild Los Angeles River survives.

(5)- EXTRA MARS INFO -- Mars is the second smallest planet in the solar system; only Mercury is smaller. Mars is about half (53 percent) the size of Earth, but Mars has the same amount of dry land as Earth.

(6)- MARKETING PUZZLE -- The longer technology is around, the cheaper products are priced. Consider a 32-inch flat-panel television. Even so, the overall average price paid for a new TV has actually risen lately.

(7)- STARS AND CONSTELLATIONS -- This site has a wealth of info such as listing the 26 brightest stars in our solar system. There are interactive star charts, listing of constellations and much more…

(8)- ELEPHANT TALK -- African elephants are known as some of the greatest communicators in the animal kingdom. They can converse over a distance of miles with “extremely low-pitched vocalizations,” (known as infrasounds).

(9)- WINE CRITIC -- With his stubborn disregard for the hierarchy of wines, this straight-talking American wine critic is revolutionizing the industry; teaching the French wine establishment lessons it would rather not learn.
