WEB BOHEMIAN Weekend Edition (Saturday/Sunday, June 4-5, 2011)
(1)- WRITERS LIKE ISLANDS -- Islands occupy a significant space in literature. They are more than scenic locations; they are literary devices whose natural boundaries help shape and contain narratives.

(2)- FORGIVE ALL? -- So say the self-help gurus. Maybe they’re right. But should forgiveness be reduced to something passive and empty, a sanctimonious way of simply moving on?...

(3)- ZEBRA BARCODE -- Field biologists following thousands of wild zebras in Africa used to joke about how nice it would be to have a bar code reader to help them identify and catalogue individual animals. It's no longer a crazy dream.

(4)- ITALY/THE CIA/AND JUSTICE -- Sabrina De Sousa, one of those convicted in Italy in the kidnapping case, says that Abu Omar wasn't a significant threat. She is suing the U.S. to provide her diplomatic protection during her appeals process.

(5)- THE PRICE OF SHOWING OFF -- Male crickets advertise their attractiveness with a loud and clear call to females. Calling effort has been linked to more mating success, but what are the hidden costs of showing off?

(6)- GROWING UP QADAFFI -- The second eldest of Muammar’s ?seven sons, Saif al-Islam Muammar al-Qaddafi was born in 1972, three years after his father took power in a military coup at 27. Little is known about Saif’s upbringing.

(7)- REAL ESTATE REPORT -- It doesn't quite fit with a real estate agent's usual spiel: three well-appointed bedrooms, a large garden - and three murders. It’s up for sale in Silver Spring, Maryland, a house with a bloody past.

(8)- NON-STOP BIRD FLIGHT – Swedish Researchers track a trio of birds (great snipes, birds native to the north of Eastern Europe and Western Russia) flying a record-setting 3,728 miles non-stop at an average speed of 43 mph.

(9)- FEMA IMPROVES -- Now, as the sixth anniversary of Katrina approaches, communities coping with killer tornadoes and flooding this spring are surprised by an agency that has been revamped. Formerly inept FEMA has vastly improved.
