WEB BOHEMIAN Weekend Edition (Saturday/Sunday, May 15-16, 2010)
(1)- BE SPECIAL -- Needed, an oxymoron: a general scientific theory of individual differences. To focus upon individuality is to celebrate particularity, whereas any general theory must submerge the individual case in a wider sea of pattern.
(2)- WOMEN ON SUBMARINES -- Women are due to start serving on nuclear subs in 2012. But have concerns about radiation exposure been adequately explored?
(3)- REVERSE GRAFFITI -- Welcome to the world of reverse graffiti, where the artist’s weapons are cleaning materials and where the enemy is the elements: wind, rain, pollution and decay.
(4)- PATTERNS -- The period between the time when young adults leave their parents' house and when they settle down to start families has grown substantially. In 1970, 21% of 25-year-olds were unmarried; by 2005, the percentage had jumped to 60%.
(5)- NECESSARY CORRECTION -- Through his spokesman, Burton on Monday complained that he had been misquoted. Burton says he didn't say "Fuck you." His actual words were, "Go fuck yourself." Calbuzz regrets the error.
(6)- THE COCKTAIL -- The drink catechism has long held that cocktails as we know them were created by “Professor” Jerry Thomas, a pioneering and flamboyant American bartender who published the first bar manual in 1862.
(7)- BIO-CREMATION -- Funeral homes and crematoria want to use a liquid chemical process to dissolve bodies instead of cremating them with fire. It's green. It's clean. It's environmentally friendly and it reduces the carbon footprint.
(8)- EXPLANATION – He drove west, pulled into the grassy median emergency crossover separating westbound and eastbound lanes. Instead of turning left out of the crossover, he turned right, drove west in the far-left eastbound lanes.
(9)- THAT OIL SPILL -- Collected here are several recent photos of the developing situation along Louisiana's Gulf Shore - one with the potential to eclipse the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in scope and damage. (32 photos total).
