(1)- CALCIUM -- Astronomers discover a new type of exploding star that spews huge amounts of calcium and defies the two known categories of supernovae. Few of these star bursts are known, but they could explain the abundance of calcium in galaxies like our Milky Way.

(2)- QUANTUM ENTAGLEMENT -- The future of clean green solar power may well hinge on scientists being able to unravel the mysteries of photosynthesis, the process by which green plants convert sunlight into electrochemical energy.

(3)- BORDEAUX REPORT -- For a significant segment of the wine-drinking population in the United States, Bordeaux, once the world’s most hallowed region and the standard-bearer for all fine wines, is now largely irrelevant.

(4)- UP-SCALE VENDING -- Moscow government officials, especially women, were delighted to see a new caviar machine with tiny cans, despite rather steep prices – a 100-gram can costing $5. It was installed in a government office, but broke down.

(5)- GRAMMAR -- Pronouns are not selective fish hooks. Pronouns are sweeping nets. You have to cast your net shallowly in the hopes that you catch the one noun the pronoun refers to. That’s what context does, pusing relevance to the surface.

(6)- BRIETBART – Andrew Breitbart founded Breitbart.com, which has aggregated news from the AP, Reuters, and other news services. He is also the proprietor of several newer Web sites that provide right-leaning commentary and original reporting.

(7)- JAN MORRIS -- is a master impressionist, whose instincts for place are so sure and so well-trained that she can walk around a city, taking in details and weaving them into a special tapestry, indelibly. And then there is V.S. Naipaul.

(8)- OH DEAR -- Congratulations! It took four years and zillions of dollars, but you’re finally the parents of a bona-fide college graduate. After commencement, your child is ready to move back into your house for a period of several years.

(9)- EXPLANATION -- Crudely put, organisms experience random mutations and these are selected for (or against) by natural processes. Organisms that survive and reproduce pass on genes. Those that do not reproduce, do not pass on their genes.
