WEB BOHEMIAN (Wednesday February 17, 2010)
(1)- HITLER TRIVIA – Some say Hitler was a drug addict, others say he was the victim of a hypnosis gone wrong. Then there are the strange hypotheses about his genitalia. A new book, however, debunks most such ideas.
(2)- NORTH KOREA -- We should regard the Kim Jong-il system as a phenomenon of the very extreme and pathological right. It is based on totalitarian "military first" mobilization, maintained by slave labor, with unapologetic racism and xenophobia.
(3)- ITZA REDO -- Heinz revamps ketchup packet for dippers and squeezers; old ones didn't cut the mustard. Now, fast-food lovers have a choice: the traditional squeeze play — or the option to dunk.
(4)- GOOGLE & THE NSA -- Under an agreement being finalized says the National Security Agency would help Google analyze a major corporate espionage attack that originated in China and targeted Google's computer networks.
(5)- EXPLANATION -- A Wisconsin woman who tied up a cheating lover and glued his penis to his stomach said Tuesday that she didn't mean to hurt him and only overreacted because he had tried to contact her 12-year-old daughter.
(6)- A HOUSE -- Can writers' former homes become tourist destinations? The odds are long and the payoff is low. The house has a literary claim to fame: Langston Hughes lived here for about two years, starting in 1917, while he was in high school.
(7)- BENITO'S MISTRESS SPEAKS -- Mussolini's mistress, Clara Petacci, recorded etails of her affair with Il Duce in her journal. Her newly published diary reveals Mussolini as a sex-addicted anti-Semite who found Hitler "very likeable."
(8)- TINTIN AUTHOR -- Even as a collaborator, Remi was innocuous. His worst crime was going along instead of resisting. He is a study not in the banality of evil but simply in the banality of the banal. But Tintin himself is anything but banal.
(9)- ADVERT -- The ad can’t stay still. It’s always searching for, and moving into, new territory, and then trying to settle down, often initially alone and under attack. It is expansionist by nature, never taking no for an answer.
