WEB BOHEMIAN (Monday, January 4, 2010)
(1)- DRUNKEN HISTORY - Concerns over drunkenness go back a long way. The first Licensing Act in 1552 required alehouse-keepers to be licensed by local justices because ‘intolerable hurts and troubles’ arose from drunkenness...’

(2)- A BORE -- Science is exciting. Science is cutting-edge. Science is fun. No! This glittering depiction of the quest for knowledge is more of a long, plodding journey through a dim maze of dead ends, with occasional successes.

(3)- A MODEST PROPOSAL -- Every large library in the state - heck, in the country - should buy 10 electronic book readers and allow patrons to check them out for two weeks, just like real books.

(4)- WAS JESUS WEALTHY?? -- The prosperity gospel has attracted plenty of critics. But popular televangelists such as the late Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin and others built megachurches and a global audience by equating piety with prosperity.

(5)- LEFT BEHIND -- A dead octopus, a cat and part of a shotgun are among the items passengers have left on trains in Scotland this year. Hundreds of items abandoned on trains are handed into the lost property offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

(6)- KEEPING WARM -- Grab a handful of chestnuts, sit back and stare at your computer screen for this video of the legendary yule log.

(7)- FOR THE HOMELESS -- An estimated 10,000 pairs of fake athletic shoes confiscated by the Los Angeles Police Department anti-piracy unit -- including knockoffs of Adidas and Nikes -- have been seized and handed out to the homeless.

(8)- PRUDENCE RULES -- A London restaurant has asked diners to sign a legal waiver before tucking in to their traditional holiday pudding in case they hurt themselves on the silver charms inside.

(9)- SEEMS LOGICAL -- If some religions sip wine at the altar, others should be allowed to smoke pot. At least according to two ordained ministers behind a proposed $25 million class action lawsuit challenging Canada's marijuana laws.
