(1)- UNTIL DIGITAL ART RULES -- Some artists will persist in making
things that are tangibly, compellingly, perhaps even brutally
present—physically and psychologically. That is, they will keep making
sculpture.
(2)- AHA
-- Esthetic schools, judgments, and styles proliferate with fractal abandon.
Some have done so officially, others unofficially; some by fiat, others by more
mysterious processes of historical emergence.
(3)- ABSOLUTELY WORST SOUNDS --
Neuroscientists find sound of fingernails on a chalkboard isn’t the
worst. It’s not even second. The Journal of Neuroscience lists and records the
10 most irritating sounds.
(4)- CLAIMS OF INNOCENCE -- Silvio Berlusconi stands up in an Italian
court to insist that "scenes of a sexual nature" (involving an
underage prostitute) never took place at his so-called "bunga-bunga"
parties.
(5)- SOME ART IS STOLEN; SOME RETURNED -- A Roy Lichtenstein painting is returned
after having gone missing more than 40 years ago. "Electric Cord,"
created in 1961, mysteriously reappears in a New York warehouse.
(6)- TOO BIG TO FAIL; TOO RISKY TO EXIST -- Four years after the 2008 financial
crisis, banks are behaving more recklessly than ever. They’re too big to
regulate. They’re too complex to understand.
(7)- POETRY CONTEST WINNER -- Congratulations to Sarah Crossland of
Manassas, Virginia, who has been selected by Boston Review contest judge
Matthea Harvey as the 2012 winner of the 15th Annual Poetry Contest.
(8)- DAN
BALZ: A BASTION OF PERSPECTIVE
-- In today’s cacophonous political climate, the veteran Washington Post
political writer’s measured, balanced approach may be more valuable than ever.
(9)- NYCITY’S FINEST FOODS -- here's a look at snapshots of the great
dishes profiled leading up to our Village Voice Best Of NYC issue. Enjoy, in no
particular order, the slices of pizza, plates of biryani, and hefty sandwiches
that really ring your bells.
