(1)- THE SELF-EMMOLATOR -- His total defiance of the survival and
self-preservation instincts, his determination to trample on what everybody
else finds precious… He does not cease to dominate us.
(2)- ON BEING DIAGNOSED
-- The week after my 30th birthday, my best friend had me committed to a psych
ward. Two days later, I had emerged with a life-changing diagnosis. The hard
part hadn’t even started yet.
(3)- CHEERS -- After an initial season of low ratings, Cheers would grow
into a Nielsens-climbing, Emmy-gobbling cultural smash, thanks in large part to
the show's central relationship, between Sam and Diane Chambers.
(4)- CONSTANT COLOR CONFUSI0N -- The crayola-fication of the world: How we
gave colors names, and it messed with our brains. Who in the rainbow can draw
the line where the violet tint ends and the orange tint begins.
(5)- DANGEROUS TIMES -- An over 22-foot-long crocodile that
ripped prey to death and another huge croc that sucked prey to its doom were at
the top of the European marine food chain 150 million years ago.
(6)- EGGS
-- Poached, scrambled, boiled or fried. We all have our preference for how to
cook an egg. But the egg also highlights our personalities; reveals secrets
about social class and even sex drive.
(7)- BEER & POLITICS -- Americans who most often drink Dos Equis
are in the middle-of-the-road while drinkers of Heineken's flagship brand are
strongly Democratic. Samu Adams drinkers are strongly Republican, and more
likely to vote.
(8)- NO COMMENT STATISTICS -- Household chores may tell you about the
state of your marriage and how likely you are to get divorced. Divorce rates
are far higher among modern couples who share the housework.
(9)- BLACK HOLES – For the first time scientists measure the radius of a massive
black hole at the center of a distant galaxy—the closest distance at which
matter can approach before being irretrievably pulled into…
