(1)- MORRIS DANCING -- This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Thaxted Morris and Folk Song Company. Dancers descend on an ancient market town to prove it is about more than grown men waving hankies and jingling bells.
(2)- INNOCENT BUT GUILTY – Prosecutors oppose a requested new trial for a Detroit man who has spent 25 years in prison for a rape that Michigan's Innocence Clinic forensic evidence proves he didn't commit.
(3)- BOOZE MESSES YOU UP -- The molecular mechanisms by which alcohol alters neuronal activity in the brain are poorly understood, according to research into prototype brain proteins thought to underlie alcohol actions in the brain.
(4)- PALIN NUMBERS -- A new Rasmussen report finds that 36% of Likely GOP Primary Voters think it would be good for Republicans if Palin enters the race, but 45% believe it would be bad for the party. Just 11% say it would have no impact.
(5)- RATINGS RUMBLE -- Thomas Straubhaar, a leading German economist, is calling for the “violent overthrow” of US-based credit-rating companies, which can deeply influence the financial future of the countries they rate.
(6)- ENLIGHTENMENT LOSES – There’s now the view that bias, lack of logic and other supposed flaws that pollute the stream of reason are social adaptations that enable one group to persuade (and defeat) another.
(7)- ALERT MECHANICS – Don’tFlushMe, Internet-based alert system in New York City created to curb the discharge of raw sewage into NYC's waterways, texts potential flushers and notifies them when it's safe or unsafe to do so.
(8)- TRACKING YOURSELF -- The concept of self-tracking dates back centuries. Modern body hackers refer to Benjamin Franklin, who kept a list of 13 virtues and put a check mark next to each when he violated it. Now come phone apps.
(9)- EVALUATING EVIL -- The perverse irony of Stalin’s and Hitler’s desire to conquer the bloodlands was that by expanding their empires they diversified them. Suddenly, they had the need to pacify a whole lot of foreigners.
