WEB BOHEMIAN Weekend Edition (Saturday/Sunday, May 22-23, 2010)
(1)- ORPHAN ANNIE ENDS -- The iconic redheaded orphan Annie ends her time in newspaper comics after 85 years. Syndication ceases June 13. However, Annie goes into the Internet age by pursuing new audiences for her in digital media.

(2)- WRONG TACO BAG -- A woman, driving a silver SUV, got more than burritos when she went through a Taco Bell drive through. Instead of her order, she got a bag containing the restaurant’s morning bank deposit — about $2,000.

(3)- FACTORY-MADE DNA – After 2 and a half years of tests and adjustments, J. Craig Venter Institute researchers inserted artificial genetic material — chemically printed, synthesized and assembled — into cells that then grew naturally.

(4)- EXTRAORDINARY OIL SPILL PHOTOS -- While visible damage to shorelines has been minimal to date, the scene remains, in the words of President Obama, a "potentially unprecedented environmental disaster." Unusual photos here:

(5)- LONGEVITY -- A pill that will help you live to 100 and beyond may be available within two years -- a spin-off from research into age-related illnesses such as Alzheimer's. It’s already in development.

(6)- MAYAN CITY DISCOVERED -- In only 4 days, an aircraft equipped with a new version of light detection and ranging flew back and forth over the jungle and mapped the remains of one of the largest Maya cities, in Central America.

(7)- SEEING BETTER -- An operation which clips artificial lenses inside the eye gives better results than laser surgery and should be used more widely, according to new research.

(8)- DISCOVERY -- Archeologists hae uncovered a 14th-century aqueduct that supplied water to Jerusalem for almost 600 years along a route dating back to the time of Jesus. The experts knew exactly where to look.

(9)- THE DUKE -- Ellington acquired the nickname “Duke” on the brink of adolescence, and, whatever its source (accounts differ), it indicates the superior impression that the boy already made at that young age.
