WEB BOHEMIAN Weekend Edition (Saturday/Sunday, May 1-2, 2010)
(1)- SHUTTLE RETIREMENT -- Retirement for the space shuttles simply means the start of their lives in the public eye. All three orbiters – Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour – are expected to be placed on public display at museums.

(2)- BILL GATES: -- “It’s funny in a way…When I was young, I didn’t know any old people. When we did the microprocessor revolution, there was nobody old, nobody. It’s weird how old this industry has become.”

(3)- DEMENTED SWAN -- Frightened rowers beg the Queen to get rid of a vicious swan that continually attacks them on a river in eastern England. The bird has recently stepped up its aggressive stance towards boaters on the River Cam.

(4)- PRESIDENTIAL READERS -- Obama follows a long line of ardent presidential readers, paging all the way back to the founders. John Adams's library had more than 3,000 volumes -- including Cicero, Plutarch and Thucydides.

(5)- NATIONS AND ENTERPRISE -- Critics have tried to explain away the West’s centuries-long economic domination of the globe; they would do better to study its lessons. That, at least, is one assessment of the historical record.

(6)- SOVIET STATUARY -- I'm not clear on whether this Cracked.com image is a photoshop job or an actual fountain somewhere in the world (the former USSR?) or just a clever idea for repurposing all that Stalin-era monumentary.

(7)- NO DESIGN -- Experimental reality in molecular and cell biology is manifestly inconsistent with the design perspective on the cell, thus it ias asked where do order and reproducibility in living systems come from if not from design?

(8)- CHANGE IS IN THE AIR -- North Korea's ailing leader Kim Jong-il has recently been pictured with Kim Jong-un, his third son, and suspected heir apparent. Here we profile the Stalinist state's reclusive "Dear Leader".

(9)- NEW ICE CREAM -- Ben and Jerry's ice cream has a new flavor. Bonnaroo Buzz! This new flavor contains light coffee and malt ice creams with whiskey caramel swirls and English toffee pieces.
