WEB BOHEMIAN (Thursday, January 29, 2009)
(1)- THE DOG ATE IT -- Veterinarians in Warson Woods, Mo., say they found 15 pacifiers, a bottle cap and a piece of a basketball in a 2-year-old bulldog named Lulu. Lulu's owners, David and Jennifer Swart, said their 18-month-old daughter's pacifiers kept disappearing and they kept buying more, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday.

(2)- DOMESTIC DISPUTE -- Arrest reports say a Tampa man is accused of threatening to kill his wife with a chainsaw. The report said 41-year-old Ubaldo Gonzalez was arrested early Saturday morning after a fight with his wife. He allegedly started a chainsaw during the argument and threatened to kill her. When she ran into her children's bedroom and locked the door, he reportedly kicked the door open and "physically assaulted her."

(3)- ABATTOIR – This website represents job enjoyment for those who like to ride around the office. A slaughterhouse, also called an abattoir (from the French verb abattre, "to strike down"), or freezing works (English), is a peculiar facility where animals are killed and processed into meat foods. See for yourself.

(4)-TIMES OF LONDON REPORT -- Scientists have found that the pleasure women get from making love is directly linked to the size of their partner’s bank balance. They found that the wealthier a man is, the more frequently his partner has orgasms. “Women’s orgasm frequency increases with the income of their partner,” said Dr Thomas Pollet, the Newcastle University psychologist behind the research.

(5)-IRRATIONAL INTELLIGENCE -- Ever bought a 12-foot Christmas tree for a 10-foot-high apartment? Picked up a hitchhiker in a nasty part of town? Or, perhaps, taken out a mortgage you couldn't afford? The good news is that poor decision-making skills may have little effect on your IQ score, according to Keith E. Stanovich, author of What Intelligence Tests Miss: The Psychology of Rational Thought (Yale University Press).

(6)- FASHION REPORT -- A prominent fashion designer has sparked outrage in Chile by dressing up models like the Virgin Mary -- in some cases with ample, near-naked breasts. The Roman Catholic Church condemned Ricardo Oyarzun's plans for a show featuring the models, and a conservative group tried unsuccessfully to block it in court.

(7)- GOPHER BOUNTY REPORT – In Minnesota's Nicollet County Lafayette Township, each pocket gopher nets $3. The tails themselves end up in Elaine Poulson’s garden. In 2008, the township collected 436 gophers, and paid $1,308. Nicollet County reimburses its townships, but only at $1 per tail, leaving the township to pick up most of the fee.

(8)- NO MORE PARADE ELEPHANTS -- For the first time in 30 years, elephants will not be part of the annual military parade in New Delhi. An Indian Defense Ministry spokesman says this year's ban on elephants was prompted by security concerns raised during last year's event. During last year's parade, two elephants nearly stampeded while approaching the president's platform.

(9)- SIR JOHN MORTIMER -- Sir John Mortimer became a lawyer at his father's behest and a writer by his own preference. Through rare gifts of energy, confidence, intelligence and wit he succeeded brilliantly in both careers. His own life afforded the material for the creation of Horace Rumpole, the shambling but stylish barrister whose quirky devotion to apparently hopeless causes made him one of the most compelling characters on British television.
